Get out!.... Kykuit, The Rockefeller Estate

It's summertime and it's HOT in the city.  Are you ever sitting around, tired of the city and wondering what to do or where to go?  What better time to get out of the asphalt jungle and see some green than now?  Here is a One Day Getaway I recently did and it is accessible by car or train.  First one is KYKUIT, The Rockefeller Estate.

Kykuit (the Dutch word for high point) was the home of four generations of the famous Rockefeller family (Rockefeller Plaza, Rockefeller University, founders of Standard Oil, etc.).  It is now a beautiful estate that you can tour in the Hudson Valley.  Sweeping vista views and priceless pieces of art are some of the highlights of the tour.  The main mansion itself is six stories and you will get to see the ground floor and the lower floors containing Picasso's, Calder's and more.  It is really like going to a museum with the breadth of art that has been collected by the Rockefellers.  You will also get to see the numerous horse carriages and cars that were used by the family while they resided there.  Be sure to bring a camera with plenty of storage as you will be taking many pictures of the gorgeous landscape alone.

Kykuit is open Thursday through Sundays in the summer.
